Ready To Roll!
Congratulations once again, on your entrance into a new year and a new decade! There has been so much hype about this New Year and the fact that it is a new decade. Amazing! I can’t recall but I think the last time there was such a hype was in the Year 2000. And we can all understand why that was so; the beginning of a new millennium and all the hype about envisaged computer glitches concerning the transition from the 1900s to 2000. In any case, hype and all, 2020 is here and it’s moving along quite fast. Someone said the year landed with a bang and hit the ground running. What to do? Do we wait for it to slow down or run right along with it? I choose the latter. Otherwise, before you know it, 2021 will be knocking on the door!
In which direction are you running this year? I want to assume that you will be running and not wait and watch the year swing by? Run if you can. If you can’t, walk. If that is difficult, crawl. Whatever you do, make sure you’re not standing still. That is what my pastor used to say. Keep moving. It is within your movement that the Lord will lead you. There is so much anticipation for good things this year. Every word I’ve heard is positive and progressive. We have got to believe it and run with it, to ensure those words are fulfilled, in our personal lives as well as in the nation.
A lot seems to be happening in different nations of the world, to distract us from what is important. I know Government is important and what happens in Government affects how we live, but we must avoid distractions and focus on the goal this year. For me this year, the goal is not so much about resolutions, but more about making God the goal, making a solid relationship with Him the focus and the goal. When I have Him, I have everything. And this does not mean I will leave other things undone. It just means that He will be a priority. I discovered how easy it is to get so involved in day to day life that you forget your Source. Before you know it, there is a gap, a rift, an unhealthy distance between you and God. And the causes are mostly legitimate and arising from the usual busyness of life. We must be cautious and deliberate about bridging those gaps and making sure they no longer arise.
So, 2020 is calling and I’m ready to roll. I’m doing my stretches and warm-up exercises. I am getting ready to run this marathon and I have already started with baby steps. Running on the spot, flexing muscles and taking deep breaths in and out. I’m fixing my gaze ahead and concentrating on the path I can see, even though the fog is covering the remaining 99% of the path ahead of me. I trust that God will unveil the path as I keep running and get closer on the way. I am encouraging myself. Pushing, even when I am uncertain, not allowing fear to hold me back. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
I look to my left and my right. Sometimes the cheering crowd is loud and motivating. Sometimes they are silent or absent. In whatever circumstance. I know I have an audience of One. One who will never leave me nor forsake me. When others have forgotten or failed to cheer, He is there, urging me on, telling me the things I need to hear and showing me the way to go. He is encouraging me with songs of deliverance. I keep my gaze on Him, depending on His grace and His help. With Him, I can do all things.
Be encouraged! There are a lot of people who have hit the ground running in 2020. Some people are still trying to find their way. It doesn’t matter. It is early days yet. Keep praying and keep trusting. God will show you the way if you haven’t found it yet. And if you have, keep running. The Lord is our strength. Keep holding on to the words of promise. Here’s one to ponder:
But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 Cor. 2:9 NKJV
What a promise! So let us be bold and strong and engage the year with a courageous outlook, trusting God and eagerly embracing all that He has prepared for us in it!
Have a blessed year!
